KATRA, SMVDU, Feb. 28: In observance of National Science Day, i.e., 28th of February, 2012, the School of Innovation and Community Development (SICD) and NSS of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University along with a number of student volunteers conducted a series of events and demonstrations at Govt. Higher Secondary School, Panthal, so as to orient young minds to pursuit of science. Initiating the program, Dr. S. K. Wanchoo, Director I/c SICD, laid emphasis upon the importance of teaching of science and community development. Mr. Mineesh Gulati, a leading young teacher from the region, gave demonstrations on the theme ‘Science in Day to Day Life’. Around 200 students of the school took active part in the demonstration.
The demonstration was followed by orientation sessions on Mathematical Sciences, Computer Education, Life Science around us, in which various shows were conducted by the volunteers and faculty members from SMVDU. A team of students and faculty from the School of Biotechnology, SMVDU, also took active part and introduced to the students about the details of DNA technology and the recent advancement brought about in the field of life sciences through the said technology. A Science Quiz competition was also conducted in which 25 students participated and top six students were given prizes according to merit. Dr. V. K. Tripathi, Dr. Ajay Kaul, Dr. Sharda Potukuchi, and Dr. Samantha Vaishnavi conducted group interaction with the young students on the occasion. The SMVDU team thanked the Principle and the faculty of the school for their excellent cooperation extended in organizing the event. The refreshment and gift hampers were sponsored by Café Nescafe.
