M.Sc.(Mathematics) Students Sweep Top Prizes at Inter-University Competition PDF Print E-mail

The 20th Alka Memorial Mathematical competition was organised by Department of Mathematics, University of Jammu in collaboration with Jammu Mathematical Society on 18th Dec., 2011 where eighty students from various Universities of J&K and other affiliated colleges participated.

The competition, which started in the year 1992 in the memory of Ms. Alka Gupta D/o Prof. D. K. Gupta, former Head Department of Mathematics and controller of examination, University of Jammu, is based on subjective as well as objective type questions from Mathematics. The first three position holders receive certificates and cash prize.

In the post-graduate category, students from School of Mathematics, SMVD University namely Mr. Sorab Sudan (2010SMM06), Ms. Vaishali Upadhaya (2011SMM13) and Ms. Anchal Sharma (2011SMM04) got the first, second and third positions respectively. The Participation of the students was coordinated by Dr. Kuldip Raj, Lecturer, School of Mathematics. The certificates and cash prize shall be awarded to these students during the next Annual Conference of Jammu Mathematical Society in February, 2012.

Further, it is a matter of great pride for the University that twenty two passed out students of M.Sc. Mathematics have been selected for the post of Statistical Assistant by the Services Selection Board, Government of Jammu and Kashmir, the list of which is published recently.

The credit for this remarkable success goes to our students and faculty members of the School of Mathematics in the background of the academic environment created at SMVD University.

Prof. R. N. K. Bamezai, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor congratulated all the faculty members and selected students during a meeting with the faculty members of School of Mathematics. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor lauded the role of worthy faculty members in producing the best output and suggested that faculty members from different disciplines should come together for a possible interdisciplinary research which would turn out to be very useful for them and for the society as a whole. Dr. V. K. Bhat, Director, School of Mathematics and faculty members assured Hon’ble Vice chancellor to put in their efforts for further improvement of the activities of the school.

Mrs. Roop Avtar Kour (IFS), Registrar, Prof. V. Verma, Dean College of Sciences and Dr. V. K. Bhat Director, School of Mathematics also congratulated the selected students and wished them a successful career.
