Description

02022012_symposium

Cells are continuously subjected to a barrage of DNA damage from both endogenous and external sources, and an elegant set of enzymatic pathways has evolved to repair or tolerate this damage. Deficient or aberrant repair results in mutations that can lead to cancer, . Cancer is a major killer in the world. Research in cancer, however, has made considerable progress in the last several years providing a good understanding of both the disease and the underlying problem of maintaining genomic integrity.

Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University is hosting a one day International Symposium entitled “Biotechnological Advances in Cancer Biology” on February 13, 2012 designed to address diverse research areas focused on DNA damage, mechanisms of mutagenesis and genetic instability, and the relationships between genetic instability and human cancer.

The symposium shall focus on new findings concerning the role of the DNA damage response and cell cycle control in cancer and to discuss new insights in the area of cancer biology and the latest trends in cancer research. Cutting edge research will be presented on the molecular mechanisms involved in the repair and processing of DNA lesions, genome instability, and cancer etiology.

The invited speakers, who are at the forefront of their respective fields, come from a variety of disciplines It is a unique opportunity for faculty, post-docs and students in this field of research to interact with these invited speakers, and to learn about their research activities. The symposium also provides an excellent opportunity for young investigators to participate in a forum and interact with leading investigators in this important area of biomedical research. These talks will lead to invigorating discussions and stimulate new thoughts and ideas which will hopefully further the development of research activity.
