School of Architecture & Landscape Design : Activities
Beside Academics, Architecture Students are the main driving force behind each & every activity of SMVD campus e.g. annual Technical Fest, Annual Cultural Fest, Convocations & other similar activities of SMVDU. List of some academic & other activities is as follows:
B.Arch Final Year & pre-final year students (2006 & 2007 batches) designed & fabricated spherical geodesic Dome & barrel Vaults using waste paper under guidance of Er. V.K.Dogra.
B.Arch final year students (2009 batch) design & fabricated spherical geodesic dome using bamboo tweaks in 2013under able guidance of Er. V.K.Dogra. it is kept at the entrance of SALD Building.
Ist Batch (2006-2011) of 40 students conducted educational tours/site visits & attended NASA (zonal & Annual) with faculty members at different places during their studies in 05 years at SALD, SMVDU e.g. Manipal, Bhopal, Goa, pune etc.
IInd batch (2007-2012) of 32 students visited different places of India like Srinagar, leh, Chandigarh, Manipal, Hyderabad, Karnataka & other parts of J&K as part of educational trips in their curriculum during their tenure.
IIIrd Batch (2008-13) of 37 students also followed the same routine & visited different parts of the country in order to gain the mandatory exposure as required for students of Architecture.
IVth Batch (2009-14) of 38 students continued the rich tradition of the School & studied the Architecture of different parts of the country like Chandigarh, Shimla, Katra & South Indian cities.
Ongoing batches are continuously been taken to different parts of country in order to enhance the knowledge database of the students & School at large e.g. 2013 batch is going to Jaipur in July-2014, 2010 & 2011 batch were taken recently to Shimla & Chandigarh.
SALD, SMVDU has the proud honour of organizing ‘ZONAL NASA CONVENTION-2010’ in which the university hosted around 800 undergraduate student architects from across the north zone architecture colleges. The 3-day event is the main highlighting feather of SALD & SMVDU. It was inaugurated by The Chancellor, SMVDU & Hon’ble Governor of J&K Sh. N.N. Vohra at the gracious inaugural function held inside prestigious Matrika Auditorium in March, 2010.
The Archi’fest Srijan is celebrated in the school to commemorate International Architect’s week in the first week of October every Year. Various technical & cultural events are organized during the week long event & celebrations.
Grand Freshers & Farewell functions are organized inside the main building of SALD in presence of faculty. Whole arrangement & responsibility is catered by the students of 2nd year & pre-final year respectively where as every member of SALD attends such occasions.
School is in the making of would be the host for Annual NASA convention 2015 or 2016. In context to this, first council meet of NASA India -2014 was successfully hosted at SALD SMVDU in june-2014. In the meet, website of NASA india, News-letter of NASA India was released in Presence of Hon’ble Vice-Cancellor SMVDU & Director SALD in the augural function held at Matrika Auditoirim. In the 3-day meet around 250 delegates from all architecture colleges of India took part. The main initiative of the meeting was to set the future targets for NASA-India including the venues for Annual NASA conventions which is held every year with a participation of 5000 plus delegates.
Ar. Abhimanyu Sharma, Faculty SALD represented SALD for North Zone team at international level IIA (Indian Institute of architects) Goodwill Cricket cup held in Kochi (feb-2014).

Architecture students namely Anusha Narayan & Avikal Somvanshi bagged Berkley prize in Nov. 2007 & fellowship for floating a competition, later which get realized in April 2008.
GUEST LECTURES/EXTERNAL JURY ASSESSMENTS
The first Sem (Aug. – Dec. 2006) as the starting step saw the total involvement of the faculty consisting of 4 Architects, 1 Artist and 1 Structural Engineer. The assessment of the work of sem I (First Batch) was done by practicing Architects namely Ar. B. V. Sharma and Ar. H. L. Kaul as external jury members.
Prof. Anurag Roy from Vastu Kala Academy, Delhi helped students with a few lectures furthering their understanding about Architecture.
In IInd Sem Dr. Mahua Mukherjee from IIT Roorkee and Ar. B.V Sharma from Jammu assessed work of the students as external jury members.
Sem-III (Aug – Dec. 2007): a joint workshop by SALD, SMVDU & VASTUKALA ACADEMY was held under the guidance of Prof. Anurag Roy & SALD faculty for three days in Sept-Oct. 2007.
Board of Studies comprising of Prof. V.P. Raori, Prof. R Shankar, Prof Anurag Roy & Ar. B.V. Sharma put forth valuable suggestions in Jan’2009.
A series of lectures were delivered by the board members motivating students with inputs of Academic and Practical Nature.
The school had a successful workshop involving the students of Second year with the students of Vastu Kala, Academy,Delhi from 16th_ 18th November 2007.
Guest lectures/workshops by Eminent Academicians & Practicing Architects: School of Architecture & Landscape Design has a long & rich tradition of organizing guest lectures & workshops by eminent Architects & Professionals from around the country, In the recent Past, reputed Names like Dr. Sangeet Sharma (practicing Architect and academician, S.D. sharma & Assco, Chd.), Prof. Ravindr Bhan (Reputed Practicing Landscape Architect, New Delhi & ex-faculty SPA-Delhi), Ar. Aniket Bhagwat (reknowned Practicing Landscape Architect, Ahmedabad & ex-faculty CEPT-Ahmedabad), Ar. Yatin Pandya (reputed practicing Architect ahmedabad working with vastu-shilpa foundation (Ar. B.V. Doshi) & senior visiting faculty member of CEPT-ahmedabad), Prof. Shaheer (Practicing Landscape Architect & ex-faculty SPA, Delhi) have visted the institute on invitation for delvering their important talks & workshops on some key aspects of modern society through their area of expertise.
To assess the work of the students at the end of the semester, the school involves practicing Architects/ academicians as external jury members. In the last semester alone, the School involved Ar. Ashish Gupta (Practicing Urban Designer, New delhi) & Ar. Shoven Shah (Director Sharda University) evaluated the final thesis work of final year 2009-14 batch students in June-2014. Ar. C.L.Razdan, Ar. Dinesh Nanda & Ar. Sanjay Tikkoo leading practicing Architects, Jammu supervised the pre-final jury of Sem-X thesis work on 8th & 9th May-2014. Ar. Minesh parikh, Practicing Landscape Architect, New Delhi evaluated the architectural design work by Sem-VIII students in May-2014. Ar.Nandita parikh, Practicing Landscape Architect, New Delhi evaluated the architectural design work by Sem-VI students in May-2014. Ar. Harinder Arora, Practicing Architect, Jammu & H.O.D. in Architecture, poly-technic, Jammu evaluated the architectural design work by Sem-IV students in May-2014. Ar. Rajinder Kumar, Practicing Architect, NewDelhi evaluated the Architectural design work by Sem-II students in May-2014.
