The School of biology & chemistry, established in August 2010, is one of the premier departments of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra. The strength of the department has been and continues to be excellence in research and teaching. The faculty members of the department, trained at renowned Institutes in India and abroad, are extremely well qualified and motivated with a strong commitment to teaching and research. The faculty members attract substantial financial support for their research activities from both governmental and private agencies. The commitment to research is reflected in the large number of projects sponsored by the UGC-New Delhi, CSIR-New Delhi and DST-New Delhi. Currently, the department offers the Ph.D. programme in chemistry/biology.

Objectives

• To provide education and training at PG and Ph.D. levels
• To ensure that the university achieves and maintained international level of teaching and research
• To promote study and research in technically new emerging areas
• To promote the student and faculty members for interaction at national and international level through symposiums/conferences
